A Beginner’s Guide to Ecotherapy for Anxious Thoughts
Ecotherapy can be a natural supplement to your daily routine to reduce anxiety and stress.
Mindfulness-based ecotherapy focuses on reconnecting to the world around us. While much of modern psychiatry works from the neck upwards, ecotherapy is focused on going beyond labeling and judgements of the mind to learn to be fully present and aware of our mind/body connections and rhythms.
Earthing, also known as grounding, is a therapeutic practice that involves physically connecting with the earth. Grounding is a practice that our ancestors experienced but never needed to consciously engage in.
When was the last time you were barefoot on the soles of the feet and touched the ground? For many the answer is not often enough, with some going months without direct bodily contact with nature.
Try laying or walking barefoot on the grass, sand, or dirt. This practice stabilizes our physiology through mindful presence and draws on the earth’s natural electrical charges to stabilize us physically, mentally, and emotionally.
You might me surprised to experience how much lighter, less anxious, and relaxed you feel after a mere 3 to 5 minutes of grounding. Try it!
